Vinted Shoppers Share Displeasure Regarding Sizing Modifications
Shoppers are voicing their frustration after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.
The second-hand shopping app has updated its sizing categories for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Digital Channels Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present an altered size classification compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
The company said the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
The platform has recommended to check their listings and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.
Size Classification Changes
Earlier, the measurements included numerical and alphabetical indicators, like S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum such as S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the size labels have been reassigned - for example a size L was formerly size 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
User Accounts
Frankie Bridger, who creates plus-size fashion videos, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed with size 14 tags were showing in the marketplace as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she explained.
Required Changes
Another shopper, based in Derby, said she had been left angered by the change as she had to manually change the sizing for "all her products".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, since I have chronic health issues and Vinted sales have been crucial for me since losing part of my income," she said.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million members, with 18 million British users.
It has become a favored option versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: earlier, the platform withdrew an update concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
