US Military Operation on Caracas Fuels Concerns of Future Danish Territory Acquisition.

The latest US-led strike in the South American nation and the seizure of its president have sparked apprehension regarding America's designs on Greenland. Supporters of the ex-president's political movement have reportedly set their sights on the vast island following the operations in the southern hemisphere.

Inflammatory Posts and Diplomatic Outrage

Only hours after the start of the Caracas operation, a well-known conservative commentator, who is the spouse of a high-ranking presidential adviser, posted a symbolic image. The picture depicted Greenland draped with the American flag, accompanied by cryptic caption: "SOON."

This overt threat to claim the mineral-rich region, which is a member of the NATO alliance, triggered swift and strong condemnation from Danish officials.

"We are strong partners and should continue to cooperate as such. US security is also the Arctic's and Denmark’s security," stated the Copenhagen's envoy to the United States. "Our nation and the US work together to guarantee security in the Arctic."

The diplomat further pointed out that Denmark had substantially increased its military budget recently, earmarking a substantial sum specifically for Northern and North Atlantic defence. "And yes, we expect full recognition for the sovereign borders of the Kingdom of Denmark," he emphasized.

Administrative Moves and Geopolitical Interests

The situation were additionally complicated by the previous appointment of a Southern governor as a special envoy to Greenland. The governor had openly thanked the president, saying it was an "honour" to work in a volunteer role to "make Greenland a part of the US."

After the events in Venezuela, this representative praised the administration's decisive move, connecting it to the broader "war on drugs."

Ever since returning to office, the American leader has repeatedly unnerved European partners with his expressed desire in Greenland. The territory is considered critically important for defence and future resource extraction. It currently houses the most northerly US military base.

The prime ministers of both Greenland issued a unified and forceful statement: "We have said it very clearly before. Now we say it again... You cannot annex other countries."

Public opinion in Greenland reveals a complex picture. While a overwhelming percentage of the island's residents desire independence from Denmark, there is simultaneously little to no appetite to join the United States. The island has had the option to declare sovereignty for many years.

Analyst Assessment: A Plausible Threat?

Some experts are increasingly reconsidering the likelihood of such a action. One thinktank analyst focusing in defence conceded she had once discounted the sabre-rattling but was "now not so sure."

"It wouldn't be that hard for the US to station a couple hundred or a few thousand soldiers inside of Greenland, and it's unclear to me which power could do anything about it," she concluded.
